We hear more and more about the healing powers of the forest, especially due to the Japanese, who advocate shinrin-yoku, also known as forest bathings which has been proven effective through scientific analyses, and called world wide attention to the beneficial and health preserving effects of being in a forest.

What does forest bathing mean?  Submersion in the forest’s essential strengths, the essential oils excreted by the trees and the phytoncide vapors. It has been proven that a walk in the forest decreases a person’s blood pressure, cortisol stress hormone levels, and pulse, and moreover, phytoncides raise the body’s system immunity to viruses and tumorous illnesses.

If you would like to experience the healing powers of the forest, you need to adopt a different kind of attitude towards forest hiking. You will need to give yourself over to nature with all your senses. Walk in peace and observe!  Try to walk with uniform steps, move at a steady pace, while breathing deeply and allowing every pore access to the Sopron climate of healing air.
